Forecast Earth
http://climate.weather.com/
Forecast Earth will leverage the trusted scientific resources of The Weather Channel, and the site's mission will be to present an open, balanced dialogue around the scientific facts concerning global climate change. Forecast Earth will provide interested visitors a place where sound science can be heard, and offer a forum where all people can question and debate all points of view. The site will leverage what the Internet does best; an exchange of rational ideas from both experts and non-experts with questions. In addition, Forecast Earth will look at how climate change may already be affecting the lives of individuals, families, communities and businesses.  (website description)
The Great Green Game
http://go.ucsusa.org/game/
This game tests your knowledge of how consumer choices affect the environment. As you answer questions and 'shop green' the Envirometer gauges the cumulative impact of your choices. The centerpoint on the Envirometer represents the impact of an average American household -- at the end of the game you can compare this average to your own impact on air quality, water quality, natural habitats, and the sustainability of our climate.
Wedges Game
http://www.princeton.edu/%7Ecmi/resources/stabwedge.htm
In order to avoid a doubling of CO2 and dramatic climate change, society needs to act quickly to deploy low-carbon energy technologies and enhance natural carbon sinks.

The "stabilization wedges" concept illustrates the scale of emissions cuts needed in the future, and provides a common unit for comparing the carbon mitigating capacities of various energy and storage technologies.

A new interactive map tool lets users visualize CO2 emissions data for the entire United States . Produced by CIESIN, the map is part of NextGenerationEarth, a recently-released Web site from the Earth Institute at Columbia University that offers a range of information climate change by state. CIESIN’s interactive map is a custom application that builds on Google Map technology, generating maps that depict the most recent year’s CO2 emissions (2003), or change since 1990. Users may map total CO2 emissions, or emissions by sector; and may choose to show emissions on a per-capita or per-GDP basis.
Climate Analysis Indicators Tool

The Climate Analysis Indicators Tool (CAIT) is an information and analysis tool on global climate change developed by the World Resources Institute. CAIT provides a comprehensive and comparable database of greenhouse gas emissions data (including all major sources and sinks) and other climate-relevant indicators. CAIT can be used to analyze a wide range of climate-related data questions and to help support future policy decisions made under the Climate Convention and in other fora.

Article: Hansen, J., 2004: Defusing the global warming time bomb. Sci. Amer., 290, no. 3, 68-77.
http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/abstracts/2004/Hansen.html
At present, our most accurate knowledge about climate sensitivity is based on data from the Earth's history, and this evidence reveals that small forces, maintained long enough, can cause large climate change. Human-made forces, especially greenhouse gases, soot and other small particles, now exceed natural forces, and the world has begun to warm at a rate predicted by climate models. The stability of the great ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica and the need to preserve global coastlines set a low limit on the global warming that will constitute "dangerous anthropogenic interference" with climate. Halting global warming requires urgent, unprecedented international cooperation, but the needed actions are feasible and have additional benefits for human health, agriculture and the environment. This is a shorter version of an article published on-line in 2003 as "Can we defuse the global warming time bomb?".
How to answer the claims of a Climate Change Skeptic
Perhaps you have a friend, a work colleague or even a family member who still isn’t convinced about Climate Change? Well help is now at hand! Below is a complete listing of the articles in "How to Talk to a Climate Sceptic," a series by Coby Beck containing responses to the most common sceptical arguments on global warming. There are four separate taxonomies; arguments are divided by: Stages of Denial, Scientific Topics, Types of Argument, and Levels of Sophistication Individual articles will appear under multiple headings and may even appear in multiple subcategories in the same heading.

Exhibit: Global Warming Facts and Our Future http://www.koshland-science-museum.org/exhibitgcc/index.jsp Climate Warming Is a Global Problem, but the impacts and potential solutions will affect us locally and in many different ways. The challenge for each of us and for our policy makers is to pursue effective responses that are as fair as possible to all people and nations. In this exhibition the National Academies provide scientific information to help us make informed decisions and to help answer some important questions: Is The Climate Warming? Are Humans Causing Climate Warming? What Effects Might Climate Warming Have? What Should Be Done About Climate Warming? (from Website description)
The Heat is On
http://www.heatisonline.org/main.cfm
This site, based on the book The Heat Is On, by Ross Gelbspan, (Perseus Books,1997):
  • Lays bare the central drama: the ability of this planet to sustain civilization vs. the survival of the fossil fuel industry (a 6,000-word text overview);
  • Catalogues the last four years of increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events all over the world;
  • Provides a digest of the major scientific findings about global warming;
  • Documents a pervasive and very successful industry campaign of deception and disinformation (and details the U.S. politics of climate change at the beginning of 1999);
  • Outlines a global solution which could begin to stabilize our inflamed climate while, at the same time, triggering an unprecedented gain in the overall equity and wealth of the global economy. (Web description)
Climate Changes Fact Sheets Collection
http://www.cs.ntu.edu.au/homepages/jmitroy/sid101/uncc/fs-index.html
Charles Darwin University collection of links to material on the interaction of energy, society and the environment that were part of an interdisciplinary unit, SID101, that used to run at the NTU. Disclaimer: one can expect a lot of broken links from the stuff on non-NTU sites. Some of the material is obviously a bit dated.

Before you go off and surf the internet a word of caution is in order. There is no filtering process with electronic publishing. So while there is much information that is useful, there is probably more material that is complete nonsense. Generally the information I've moved to the NTU is written by someone who knows what they are talking about (although the articles may be opinionated) and the purely factual matter will generally be trustworthy (no guarantees given for some of the raves). Article: “Climate Game Gives Real Options to Save World”
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11253361
by Nell Boyce June 25, 2007

When thinking about climate change and reducing carbon emissions, people often bring up the need for technological breakthroughs. But some experts say we already have all the tools and know-how we need to drastically reduce carbon emissions.

That idea is the basis for a new game. It's being played by school children, policy wonks, scientists, and other groups around the world. Recently, at a business seminar held by the Sustainable Enterprise Academy at York University in Toronto, some executives decided to sit down and give it a try.

Things you can do
http://www.sierraclub.org/globalwarming/tenthings/
The choices we make and the products we buy test our commitment to maintain a healthy planet. When we burn fossil fuels—such as oil, coal, and natural gas—to run our cars and light our homes, we pump carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. This thickens the heat-trapping blanket that surrounds the planet, causing global warming.
